OVERVIEW:

This course gives participants the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their work safely at heights in the resources and infrastructure industry. Participants will learn the hazards and risk control measures when working at heights, the use and care of appropriate PPE and equipment, safe systems of work such as permit to work and how to respond to emergencies. Training and assessment is based on client working at height policy and procedures, Australian and New Zealand Standards and relevant legislation.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

There are no pre-requisites for this course

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Plan and prepare for working at heights
  • Identify hazards and risk management including apply the hierarchy of control to safe work at heights
  • Understand applicable legislation, codes of practice, company policy and procedures
  • Safe methods of access and egress including tools and equipment, including (but not limited to) scaffolds; ladder and tower safety; anchor points and static lines; plant access and egress; EWP’s and scissor lifts.
  • Personal Protective Equipment including (but not limited to) fall restraint and arrest systems, lanyards, shock absorbers, fall-arrest devices, hardware and system clearances.
  • Edge protection, tools and equipment at heights; exclusion zones, housekeeping and rescue procedures.
  • Practical assessment fall arrest PPE inspections and demonstration of safe, confident working practices at heights.

Who should take this course?

  • Anyone who is required to work at heights in varying roles; this includes Riggers, maintenance personnel, scaffolders, plant operators, construction, mining and resources sector workers

CERTIFICATION:

Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment in RIIWHS204E Work safely at heights ^
^ A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required before ATC can issue the candidate with a Statement of Attainment.
